We were thrilled to shoot the Ubuntu Education Fund inaugural Rock The Bowl fundraiser at Brooklyn Bowl. It was an incredible night full of amazing performances by Lion Of Ido, GrindCity, Bajah + the Dry Eye Crew and Antibalas and incredible food supplied by Blue Ribbon.

The Ubuntu Education Fund is a non-profit organization serving the township communities of Port Elizabeth, South Africa.  They provide over 40,000 vulnerable children and families with life saving health and educational resources needed to live healthy, prosperous lives. With a 80% unemployment rate in the Port Elizabeth communities they provide Youth Empowerment initiatives through various computer labs, libraries and career guidance centers. They provide HIV Prevention Programs teaching life skills and offering HIV/AIDS outreach as well as condom distribution to learners and the community.

We are huge fans of Galapagos Art Space in Dumbo, Brooklyn and are so psyched whenever we are asked to shoot there.  They are on the way to being New York City’s first LEED certified ‘green’ cultural venue and host incredible cultural events, in addition to weddings and all sorts of parties.  This particular night was a combination Springtime Floating Kabarette and birthday party for the lucky Brendan, hosted by the hilarious Olga & Bjorn with amazing performances all night long.

We were lucky enough to attend the incredible and underground Shanghai Mermaid New Years Eve party in Brooklyn. Best described in Shanghai Mermaid’s own words: “It was an evening of entertainment from another era… 1930’s Shanghai, 1920’s Paris, Weimar Berlin, early gangster and jazz era New York.”  And it really was!  We captured performances by Veronica Varlow, the seductive and bewitching lady of burlesque and aerial magic by the beautiful Anya Sapozhnikova of Lady Circus.  We also snapped photos of our fellow revelers dancing alongside us all night…  Happy New Year everyone!!!
